The Week In Review: Just 90 More Minutes.

Going into the week we had optimism that we had a slim chance of Champions League football and began with the visit of Huddersfield. We also faced the growing questions over Antonio Conte’s future and the longest domestic trip of the season.

Firstly we hosted Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge in another must win game, Antonio Conte put a second string side out however. Despite our ever so defensive set up we attacked for the majority of the game only to concede to Depoitre in the 50th minute it turned out to be their only shot on target. Twelve minutes later we drew level thanks to Marcos Alonso despite him having little control after a clearance rebounded off him. Despite 12 Chelsea shots including one off the post Huddersfield held on to seal their survival and make our hope of top 4 even slimmer.

The future of Antonio Conte was the big question throughout the week with increasing links to Napoli’s Maurizio Sarri of who was meeting with the President of Napoli. Another one of Chelsea managerial targets, Thomas Tuchel joined Paris Saint Germain while rumours linking Pochettino to Chelsea got stronger however Jardim rumours cooled. Very little on the player front though.

Finally the season drew to a close while we faced the trip to Newcastle. Going into the game we needed a victory as well as Liverpool to lose. It turned out to be one of our worst performances of the season, we had two shots on goal in 90 minutes while Newcastle strolled to a 3-0 victory, in other news Liverpool beat Brighton 4-0 at Anfield confirming our place in the Europa League.

90 more minutes.
